Dinners, Beans and Dumpling
Last night, I helped my family to fix dinner as mum and dad would return late from work and other commitments. Hence, I have no choice but to whip up some simple hassle-free dishes.
Here are some of the food I cooked:
Stirred Fried Chicken with Sesame Oil and Ginger. Being a health-conscious myself, I usually discard those chicken skins and chopped the chicken meat up. Marinate them with dark sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil and pepper. Slice some gingers and fried till they are fragrant.
Spicy Popcorn Chicken. I got them from the supermarket. It's definitely different from the KFC popcorn chicken.
Stirred Fried Celery with Tomatoes. Well, the only thing my mum picked a bone with me on this was that I didn't peel off the celery skin before I cook it.
Garlic Prawns. My favourite dish! But I think I could have done this dish better. There is always a next time. :)
The only thing that was missing from the dining table was a bowl of soup. Reason being, I can't cook soup for nuts. There is something about soups and condiments which I cannot understand like the way how my mum understands.
As for today's dinner, we had Bean and Pork Dumplings. We usually termed it as 'Ba Chang'. One of my aunties came back from Hongkong and she gave us a dumpling to try. This was unlike the usual dumplings which you can find in the marketplace. It was really huge. My mum and I had to share this one.
At first, I thought there would be a big piece of abalone or pieces of lobster hiding in this huge dumpling. But, sigh, there were mostly red beans and peanuts. I was lucky to find a tiny pork hidden in amidst of all the beans.

Tutu Kueh and Minestrone Soup
This morning, I went to Thomson Plaza to buy a DVD-RW for my mother to store all her photos she took during her China Trip. I managed to brave through the hot sun and into the comfortably air-conditioned mall.
On the way to the Popular store, my mind was ruminating if I should get Donuts, fried food from Old Chang Kee or pippin' hot prata from Ah Mei's Coffeeshop. Sometimes, when comes to food, I need to analyse and think before I buy. Fortunately, there was a makeshift stall that sells Tutu Kueh. Within split seconds, I bought three pieces of coconut and two pieces of peanut (S$2). You can find these Tutu Kueh in some Pasar Malams (Night Market) around the island. Cheryl loves Tutu Kueh too! High-five!
These are the Tutu Kueh and they are all shaped like a flower. Oh, the green square is actually banana leaves. The seller would cut them up into smaller pieces in order to underneath the pippin hot and freshly-made kueh.
This is the innards of the kueh. I think it had a rupture.
After trying so many Tutu Kueh around the island, the best ones has to be Tan Tutu Kueh. Their skin is really soft and they mixed Gula Melaka with the coconut, unlike the usual orange sugar. The minute you bite into those cutesy little kueh, you just want more. They have stalls at Food Republic foodcourts and also at Clementi.
For lunch, I decided to cook some soup since I am pretty lazy. I took a packet of Muji's ready-made Minestrone Soup. It was pretty good, surprisingly. Perfect with a soft bread.

A Random Food Photo I Found...
Here is a photo which I found in one of my photo folders. This was taken in January 2008 when I was having coffee break with my friend, Liping. We decided to go to Toast Box @ Wisma Astria Food Republic after an afternoon of shopping. As usual, I ordered coffee (S$1.30) and Peanut Thick toast whereas Liping ordered tea (Approx. S$1.10) and Kaya Thick Toast. Surprisingly, the thick toast tasted good. We managed to eat up everything. Perhaps, we were hungry.
The Story of a Pineapple
When I was twelve years old, I remembered I wanted to marry a pineapple plantation tycoon's son (of course, has to be charming!) so that I can eat all the pineapple cookies everyday. Oh well, that didn't happen. But I still head down to the nearest provision shop or supermarket to get my fix on pineapple biscuits at times.
This picture was taken two weeks ago at my backyard. Recently, my dad has been planting pineapple in our mini garden. To him, it's a fulfillment because at the end of the day, we can all eat the ripe pineapple. How nice! We don't use pesticide so it's quite good and safe. By the time you read this post, we would have already slice up this ripe pineapple.

Celebrating our friend, Gin's birthday
Today, my friends namely - Zoe, Ellie and Cheryl and I decided to head down to Shokudo@Cineleisure to celebrate our friend, Gin's birthday. Whenever we go for our Kbox session or movie session, we would stare sadly at the newly-furnished restaurant and wondered when we will dine at that place. Finally, we got the chance today.
Despite the school holidays and being a weekday, the place wasn't really packed. As you may know, Shokudo is a new addition to the eatery pie in Singapore and they sell contemporary Japanese cuisine, just like Pasta@Waraku at Central.
Anyway, we took a peek at the menu and thought of getting food with the student price tag. In order to maximum our dollar, we ordered two pastas and a pizza to share among ourselves. We aren't cheapo but we just want to taste most of their dishes.
One of them was Salmon and Avocado Spaghetti (S$8.80). It comes with cubes of salmon and avocado with wafu sauce. Trust me, I have no idea what wafu sauce is. When the dish came, I thought to myself, isn't the sauce look like cream sauce? Anyway, this dish was tad disappointing. The sauce was tasteless. My poor friends have to put cheese profusely onto the spaghetti in order to eat properly.
Next, our Wanton Spaghetti (S$7.80). It comes with steamed wantons with wafu sauce and inside the parcel, it's chicken meat. Compared to the previous post, this dish tasted way better although it wasn't not as good as what I thought. I had to put lots of chili flakes to eat it.
But the best dish so far had to be the waffle thin pizza (Approx. S$10.80). The filling was mashed curry potatoes and on top of that, it was littered with curry leaves and some chili flakes. It was really good. I didn't managed to catch hold of the title. Darn! In the end, all of us agreed that we should just ordered more pizzas instead of the lousy pastas.
When we finishing our entree, our birthday girl finally arrived. She ordered the Shokudo Cheeseburger (S$9.80) and when the burger finally arrived, it was huge! There was sunny side-up egg on top of the mushroom-sauce beef patties. The egg was well-cooked to the perfection of a runny egg. They spread the butter onto the hamburger bun and toasted it until it looked yellowish. You can't see the bun here as our birthday girl had already put it close to her face to understand that the bun was really big. The fries tasted like MOS Burger fries. Superb with chili sauce.
For dessert, I ordered the Tofu Cheesecake (S$4.80). The taste was not too bad. There wasn't any strong tofu or cheese taste in this dish. Instead, it was well-balanced. Ellie ordered Green Tea and Red Bean 'ice-kacang'. I didn't managed to catch hold of the price and the title. Zoe had her Mochi with Red Bean and Green Tea Ice-Cream. The Mochi was chewy and I didn't really like it.
Overall, the ambience was okay but the food was really disappointing. I wish I wouldn't have gone there. But oh well...
P.S. Gin likes the pressie we got for her. A M.A.C Blusher. :)

Introduction
Hi! I'm Munchie The Foodie.
I decided to start a blog after much persuasion and nudging from my fellow friends (you know who you are! Ha!). At first, I hesitated and pondered if I wanted to start a blog, given that I am a traditionalist (read: I love writing diaries than announced publicly about my private life on the web). Then I started to think about the theme of my blog. You know like the Unique Selling Point of a blog so after much contemplating, I decided to write about food.
Why?
To put it simply, I love food. I think about my next meal even when I am working or sleeping. I even dreamt of food. Having said that, I'm really blessed to have food on the table everyday. Thank you Lord! Moreover, I am being inspired by my favourite blog, The Food Pornographer.
Alright enough of all the talk. My first entry is coming soon...
